Assistant Classroom Instructor & Basketball Coach for 2025 Summer Learning Academy
Dynamic and enthusiastic assistant instructors needed to assist in a 5-week Summer Learning Academy in Boston from July 7th – August 8th. Mandatory Training to be held June 25th-27th, 2025. The summer academies will be held at UMass Boston in Dorchester and the Fessenden School in West Newton. This position will support our summer academy at The Fessenden School in West Newton.
The Assistant Instructor/Basketball Coach will inspire and teach youth to think critically, problem solve, improve their communication and collaboration skills, and create projects using today’s latest computer technologies that you will be trained to teach.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for and experience working with youth education. This is a great opportunity for a flexible team player with a positive attitude and engaging communication and teaching skills.
3PointFoundation provides a unique summer program that features project-based learning in the classroom with afternoon sports and other activities for under-served, economically disadvantaged Boston middle-school youth. Our goal is to provide summer learning gains and promote social-emotional growth. We have been recognized by the Boston Public Schools as a BPS Priority Partner and an official Summer Learning Academy.
We are looking for individuals who enjoy working with youth, to work as teachers’ assistants and assist in activities. This is a great opportunity to learn and serve deserving youth. The summer program runs from Monday, July 7th – Friday, August 8th from 7:30am to 5 pm (Fessenden goes until 5 pm for bus monitors).
Responsibilities:
Summer Learning Academy Assistant Instructors/Basketball Coaches assist teachers in providing an innovative, high-quality education program designed to meet the needs of the student population in the program. Paraprofessionals work with program staff to create an educational environment in which quality and continuity are key factors in educating students. Due to the short duration of summer programs and the critical need to boost student learning during this time, it is particularly important that paraprofessionals in BPS summer programs:
- Assist with the preparation of cognitively demanding lessons, assignments and enrichment activities
- Support direct instruction to students individually, in small groups, and the classroom settings
- Establish a productive learning environment and classroom culture in which all students are respected
- Assist with summer academic learning program activities & lead sports curriculum
portion - Understand and implement culturally and linguistically sustaining practices
- Assist teachers and site coordinator to ensure all outcome goals are on track to be met, including academic outcomes and social-emotional skill development outcomes
- Assist with classroom management; enforce discipline code
- Care for program materials and resources
- Perform other related duties as required
Terms:
- $20-$25 per hour depending on qualifications and the position filled
- Total compensation is set based on hours of work, including professional development, on-site program time, and additional duties. Professional development hours shall not exceed 15 hours.
- Site-specific job requirements, program hours, and training schedule are to be determined by the Summer Learning Academy program. Agreement to site-specific terms is required for hire
- Payroll will be processed on a weekly basis after receipt of completed timesheets following BPS summer payroll schedule.
- All employees must read and agree to the BPS 2024 Summer Program Terms of Employment
Schedule:
- Position to begin early July 7, 2025 – August 8th, 2025
- Time is spent at the Fessenden Site, meeting students at Roxbury Crossing to be bussed to West Newton
- 10-50 hours a week (depending), 5 weeks with additional training hours
- Hours consist between 7:30am-5:00 pm M-F, depending on offer and availability
Qualifications – Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience with working with a diverse population of students, especially historically marginalized student groups, such as Black and brown students, students with disabilities, and English Language Learners
- A fierce commitment to equity
- Ability to positively impact youth and address varied needs of students with a strong commitment to 3Point’s mission
- Possession of a growth mindset; a willingness to learn new technologies and teaching techniques; and a positive “I care” attitude, including the ability to maintain enthusiasm in the face of challenges
- Engaging communication skills, including the ability to hold students’ attention while discussing subject matter, and willingness to engage parents/guardians as partners in the camp experience
- Comfortable speaking with parents and updating them about their child’s performance
- Demonstrated ability to be a flexible team player
Qualifications – Preferred:
- At least 48 credit hours of advanced coursework, or a college degree (Associates, Bachelor, Masters, or other graduate work)
- A current staff member or paraprofessional at any BPS school. BPS Teachers cannot be hired into the paraprofessional position.
- Experience working in a BPS summer learning program

Enthusiastic Youth Worker needed to assist in a 5-week Summer Learning Academy in Boston from July 7th – August 8th. The summer academies will be held at UMass Boston in Dorchester and the Fessenden School in West Newton.
Responsibilities:
The Youth Worker will serve as a positive role model for younger students in 3Point, and help create a supportive camp community. This is a great opportunity for a flexible team player with a positive attitude and communication skills to learn leadership skills.
- Assist and participate in all summer learning program activities of his or her assigned camp group.
- Supervise and monitor campers.
- Assist the Site Coordinator with the day-to-day operations of the camp.
- Establish and develop supportive and meaningful relationships.
- Assist teachers and the site coordinator to ensure all outcome goals are on track to be met, including academic outcomes and social-emotional skill development outcomes
- Care for program materials and resources.
- Adhere to policies and procedures mandated by the 3 Point Foundation and Boston Public Schools.
Qualifications – Required:
- Age: 14-18 – Work Permit required for anyone under the age of 18
- Compensation: $15 per hour
- Must possess qualities such as: leadership skills, good judgment, patience, maturity, dependability, good interpersonal skills, initiative, the ability to take direction well and the ability to interact and communicate effectively with children and young adults.
- Demonstrated ability to be a flexible team player
- Eligibility to work in the United States is required

- Time is spent at one of the two sites, possibly meeting students at Roxbury Crossing to be bussed to West Newton (UMass Boston in Dorchester or the Fessenden School in West Newton)
