Available Positions:

3PointFoundation provides unique, free, sports-based learning programs to under-served, low-income, middle-school youth in Boston to enhance social-emotional development through sports. Our goal is to develop a life-long commitment to wellness, health and fitness and to teach the life lessons through sports that lead to success in school, the community and a global society. We are a BPS Priority Partner and an official CAB (Character, Academics, Basketball) Summer Learning Academy.

Reports to:
Position reports to the Director of Academics.

Program Schedule:
Teachers are required to attend all scheduled site-based planning meetings, trainings and professional development sessions, work all required program hours, as well as complete all required wrap up duties, as indicated in the job description below.

Responsibilities:
3Point Teachers provide students with rigorous instruction that demonstrates the core competencies for effective teaching listed below:

  • Deliver cognitively demanding lessons, assignments and enrichment activities (requires some planning work outside of regular program hours)
  • Differentiate instruction so that all students complete rigorous academic work.
  • Establish a productive learning environment and classroom culture in which all students are respected.
  • Work to maintain timely student attendance and progress records.
  • Work with other program staff to ensure all outcome goals are on track to be met, including academic outcomes and social-emotional skill development outcomes.
  • Provide students, families and program staff with relevant and timely data.
  • Oversee classroom management; enforce discipline code.
  • Care for program materials and resources.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Dynamic and enthusiastic instructors needed to assist in after-school and in-school classroom programs. As an Assistant Instructor with 3Point, you will inspire and teach youth to think critically problem solve, improve their communication and collaboration skills and create projects using today’s latest computer technologies that you will be trained to teach. The ideal candidate will have a passion for and experience working with youth education. This is a great opportunity for a flexible team player with a positive attitude and engaging communication and teaching skills.

3PointFoundation provides a unique program which features project-based learning in the classroom to under-served, economically disadvantaged Boston middle-school youth in Boston Public Schools. We are looking for college graduates, who enjoy working with youth, to work as teachers’ assistants and assist in afternoon activities.

This is a great opportunity to learn and serve deserving youth. The programs run during the school year. The in-school programs follow the Boston Public Schools calendar starting in September and running through the end of June. The after-school programs run in two sessions each for 12 weeks starting in October and February of the school year. The pay rate is between 20 and $25 dollars per hour depending on qualifications and the position filled.

  • These are part-time and full-time hourly positions usually between 20-40 hours each week.

Job Description:
3Point’s Basketball Program emphasizes the development of social-emotional skills and awareness. This is a developmental basketball program for students in middle school and coaches are expected to emphasize the life lessons of the sport of basketball in addition to teaching basketball skills. To accomplish this, coaches are required to attend all SEL classes with their teams and to be familiar with the SEL curriculum.

Qualifications:

3Point Lead Instructor/Teacher for Summer Academy (Summer 2024)

Dynamic and enthusiastic instructors needed to teach in a 5-week Summer Learning Academy in Boston from Monday, July 8th – Friday, August 9th. The summer academies will be held at UMass Boston in Dorchester and the Fessenden School in West Newton.

As a lead instructor/teacher with 3Point, you will inspire and teach youth to think critically, problem solve, improve their communication and collaboration skills, and create projects using today’s latest computer technologies. Training will be provided before the start of the summer learning academy. 

The ideal candidate will have a passion for and experience working with youth education. This is a great opportunity for a flexible team player with a positive attitude and engaging communication and teaching skills.

The 3Point Foundation provides unique summer programs, which feature project-based learning in the classroom and afternoon sports and arts activities to under-served, economically disadvantaged Boston middle-school youth. Our goal is to foster summer learning gains and promote social-emotional growth. We have been recognized by the Boston Public Schools as a BPS Opportunity Priority Partner and an official Summer Learning Academy.

We are looking for instructors, certified to teach grades 5-8, who enjoy working with youth, and have summer availability during the mornings, afternoon, or both; The summer program runs from July 8th to August 9th from 7:30 am to 5 pm, each site has a slightly different schedule.  Teachers/Instructors will work from 9-12 pm, 9-4 pm, or 12-4 pm daily.

Responsibilities:

Summer Learning Academy Teachers provide 15-20 students with rigorous instruction that demonstrates the BPS core competencies for effective teaching listed below. Due to the short duration of summer programs and the critical need to boost student learning during this time, it is particularly important that summer programs:

  • Prepare cognitively demanding lessons, assignments, and enrichment activities (requires some planning work outside of regular program hours)

Terms:

  • $51.74/hr or the current BTU rate.
  • Total compensation is set based on hours of work, including professional development, on-site program time, and additional duties. Professional development hours shall not exceed 20 hours. 
  • Site-specific job requirements, program hours, and training schedule to be determined by the Summer Learning Academy program. Agreement to site-specific terms is required for hire.

Schedule:

  • Position to begin the end of June/early July 2024(mandatory training) – August 9th, 2024
  • Time is spent at one of the two sites, possibly meeting students at Roxbury Crossing to be bussed to West Newton
  • 20 or 40 hours a week, 5 weeks with additional training hours
  • Hours consist between 7:30-5:00 pm M-F, depending on offer and availability

Qualifications – Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Massachusetts teaching license in  5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grade
  • At least 1 year of formal teaching experience
  • Ability to positively impact youth and address varied needs of students
  • Possession of a growth mindset; a willingness to learn new technologies and teaching techniques, and a positive “I care” attitude, including the ability to maintain enthusiasm in the face of challenges
  • Engaging communication skills, including the ability to hold students’ attention while discussing subject matter, and willingness to engage parents/guardians as partners in the camp experience
  • Comfortable speaking with families and updating them about their child’s performance
  • Demonstrated ability to be a flexible team player

3Point Assistant Instructor/Paraprofessional for Summer Academy (Summer 2024)

 We are looking for college students, who enjoy working with youth, to work as teachers’  assistants and assist in afternoon activities. The summer program runs from Monday, July 8th – Friday, August 9th from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm (Fessenden goes until 5 pm for bus monitors). 

Responsibilities:

Summer Learning Academy Assistant Instructors/Paraprofessionals assist teachers in providing an innovative, high-quality education program designed to meet the needs of the student population in the program. Paraprofessionals work with program staff to create an educational environment in which quality and continuity are key factors in educating students. Due to the short duration of summer programs and the critical need to boost student learning during this time, it is particularly important that paraprofessionals in BPS summer programs:

  • Assist with the preparation of cognitively demanding lessons, assignments and
    enrichment activities
  • Support instruction to students individually and in the classroom setting
  • Establish a productive learning environment and classroom culture in which all
    students are respected
  • Assist with summer learning program activities
  • Understand and implement culturally and linguistically sustaining practices
  • Assist teachers and site coordinator to ensure all outcome goals are on track to be
    met, including academic outcomes and social-emotional skill development outcomes
  • Assist with classroom management; enforce discipline code
  • Care for program materials and resources
  • Perform other related duties as required

Terms:

  • $18 – $20 per hour depending on qualifications and the position filled
  • Total compensation is set based on hours of work, including professional development, on-site program time, and additional duties. Professional development hours shall not exceed 20 hours.

Aquatics Staff (Lifeguard) Job Description

Our camp goal is that every camper leaves us a better, safer swimmer and more confident individual. This position is part of the
Aquatic Staff team involved in all aquatic activities including recreational swim and pool events. This position ensures all swim
activities are safe, positive, enriching, and fun in an inclusive atmosphere. The position is for the full eight-week season (June
24th-August 16th) including events and staff training dates the week before camp starts. Additional working weeks in June and
August can be contracted. (June 10-21st, and August 19-23rd) This is a seasonal position.
 including a CORI and SORI.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Current certifications in Lifeguarding and CPR/AED/First Aid by a nationally recognized organization.
  • Desire and ability to supervise, lead, and positively manage campers and work with staff in a cooperative, team-oriented
    camp atmosphere.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Possess excellent character, integrity, adaptability, patience, self-control, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor.
  • Must be 17 years of age or older.
  • Pass a MA State run background check including a CORI and SORI.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold all policies and philosophies of the Fessenden Day Camp.
  • Follow and uphold all state and local health and safety regulations and guidelines and those set by the Camp.
  • Work with various age and skill levels providing appropriate instruction and behavioral management.
  • Be part of regular maintenance, cleaning, and check of pool areas and equipment according to health and safety
    protocols.
  • Supervise all swimming activities and enforce pool rules.
  • Teach and guide campers and CITs to participate successfully and safely in all aspects of swim activities.
  • Set a good example for campers and coworkers in all areas, including but not limited to health and safety, accountability,
    fairness, organization, punctuality, following the rules, and sportsmanship.
  • Assist in emergency procedures and complete any necessary related paperwork.
  • Participate in and assist in running camp events and initiatives.
  • Meet/communicate regularly with direct superior regarding concerns, updates, challenges, and successes.
  • Communicate with parents about their child when necessary and appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and Director.

Job Requirements

  • Available 8:30am-4:00pm, Monday – Friday for the entire camp season and to attend all staff training sessions before and
    during camp season. There may also be at least two days during the camp season you will be required to stay late for
    special events.
  • Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate health and safety
    regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Some high level activity which may include running, dancing, swimming and jumping.
  • Occasional lifting, bending, and climbing stairs.
  • Frequent talking, listening, walking, sitting, and standing.
  • Demonstrate lifeguard and swimming skills including proficiency in all strokes, swim 500 yards, rescues, removals, CPR
    and first aid.
  • Possess the visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camp and
    swimming activities.
